Beautiful Smile Makeovers With Porcelain Veneers

Everyone wants a picture-perfect smile. If various cosmetic dental treatments don’t seem to deliver the traffic-stopping smile of your dreams, then it might be time to consider dental veneers.

Dental veneers are ultra-thin porcelain covers that a dental professional adheres to the front surface of the teeth to hide minor imperfections. Veneers are a permanent, safe, and aesthetically-pleasing solution to improve your smile, enhance your appearance, and boost your confidence.

Veneers are the ultimate combination of dental art and science, handcrafted and customized to fit your smile. These paper-thin pieces of porcelain bond to the outside of your natural teeth. But just because they’re thin, don’t be fooled. Veneers are highly versatile and can replicate all the complex nuances of a natural tooth.

If you’re ready for a smile makeover, then it’s time to schedule your dental veneer consultation. Our team at Michigan Dental Studio will expertly assess your dental health and prepare you for the dental veneer journey. Call us today at (517) 546-8983 to get started!

Am I a Candidate For Veneers?

At Michigan Dental Studio, we recommend dental veneers for patients with:

  • Deep, intrinsic, or whitening-resistant stains on their teeth
  • Slightly misaligned teeth
  • Gaps in their teeth
  • Chipped, cracked, or fractured teeth

What to Expect

Patients typically receive their dazzling new smile in as little as 1-2 visits. Here’s a breakdown of the process:

  1. Consultation | You will discuss your goals with one of our doctors, who will examine your teeth and determine if veneers are suitable for you. Digital x-rays will be taken to determine your candidacy and plan your treatment.
  2. Preparation | During the preparation phase, a thin layer of enamel (usually less than a millimeter) is removed from the teeth receiving veneers. Our cutting edge technology allows for minimal “shaping” compared to most offices offering veneers.
  3. Digital Impressions | Your doctor will then take digital impressions of your teeth to create custom veneers that fit your smile perfectly.
  4. Fabrication & Placement | Our in-house dental lab allows for same-day fabrication and placement, so most patients will receive their final veneers in a single day! Our doctors will check for fit and color before permanently bonding the veneers to your teeth and making final adjustments for comfort and aesthetics.
  5. Follow-Up | After placement, your doctor may schedule a follow-up appointment to ensure the veneers are settling well and to address any concerns or adjustments needed.

Your doctor will guide you throughout the entire process, making sure that you’re comfortable and informed about each step, as well as providing care instructions for maintaining your new veneers.

How Do I Care For My Veneers?

Veneers are an investment in your image and health. And, as such, we recommend that our patients take good care of them to fully realize their investment. So, here are a few ways that you can prolong the life of your veneers:

  • Good oral hygiene | Brushing at least twice daily and flossing once daily will keep your teeth, gums, and veneers healthy. We recommend that patients use a soft-bristled toothbrush and non-abrasive toothpaste to prevent scratching their new veneers.
  • Avoid nail-biting and hard or sticky foods | Nail-biting and excessively hard, sticky, or crunchy foods may dislodge new veneers from your teeth.
  • Regular dental visits | Routine dental checkups and cleanings are your first defense against oral issues. We recommend that patients visit our office at least every 6 months.

In most cases, patients can expect to enjoy their veneers for at least a decade. However, properly caring for your new veneers may allow you to enjoy them for a lifetime!

Who makes a good candidate for veneers?

Veneers are a great option for people who seek cosmetic improvement for issues like discoloration, minor misalignment, chips, gaps, or irregularly shaped teeth.

Good candidates typically have healthy teeth and gums, with sufficient enamel to support the bonding process. A stable bite is also important, and individuals with habitual teeth grinding or severe misalignment might need additional or alternative treatments. It’s also important that you’re willing to come in for regular dental check-ups to ensure the longevity of your treatment.

On average, porcelain veneers tend to last around 10 to 15 years or longer with proper care.

Regular dental check-ups and maintenance, along with good oral hygiene practices such as brushing, flossing, and avoiding habits like teeth grinding, can significantly impact the longevity of your veneers. Over time, wear and tear or potential chipping can occur, which might necessitate replacement or repairs.

In most cases, not at all! The first step involves removing a thin layer of enamel, which is typically done after numbing the area with a local anesthetic, so the actual procedure is often painless. At Michigan Dental Studio, we utilize state-of-the-art technology that allows us to prep your teeth with minimal “shaping”, making our process less-invasive than most offices offering veneers.

Once the veneers are bonded to your teeth, any discomfort or sensitivity typically subsides within a few days as your mouth adjusts to the new addition.

Porcelain veneers are highly resistant to stains when compared to natural tooth enamel or composite resin veneers.

That said, while porcelain veneers resist stains well, they are not entirely impervious, so avoiding highly pigmented foods and beverages like coffee, tea, red wine, and tobacco can help prevent staining or discoloration of the bonding material around the veneers. We recommend regular brushing, flossing, and routine dental cleanings to maintain the appearance of your veneers and prevent any potential discoloration.

Veneers typically don’t demand specialized care beyond standard oral hygiene practices.

Regular brushing and flossing will help maintain their appearance and prevent plaque buildup, ensuring the health of the surrounding teeth and gums. Additionally, avoiding habits that might damage your veneers, such as biting hard objects or teeth grinding, is crucial for their longevity. Using protective measures, like a mouthguard during activities that pose a risk to teeth, can further safeguard your veneers.
